As part of the USDA the OSU Pottawatomie County Cooperative Extension Service uses the guidelines set forth in MyPyramid to educate individuals on how to maintain a diet to reduce the risk of diseases, such as heart disease, diabetes and high blood pressure.

Using MyPryamid also helps individuals maintain a healthy weight by encouraging people to focus on the “energy in, energy out” model through watching the amount and type of foods eaten in relation to the amount of physical activity individual’s engage in on a daily bases.
